Security personnel including police and volunteers from the Western Nigeria Security Network popularly called Amotekun and the Oodua People’s Congress are combing bushes in Osun State for travellers kidnapped Sunday evening by unknown gunmen at Omo-Ijesa in the Oriade Local Government Area of the state
The travellers were said to have abducted on Sunday evening while entering the town from a trip outside the state.
It could not be immediately ascertained how many travellers were abducted but a security source said one of the abductees, who escaped from the kidnappers, reported the incident to the police at Ijebu-Jesa.
Osun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said they had deployed some police to the scene to rescue the abductees.
She said, “We got the information of the abduction of some people at Omo-Ijesa late on Sunday and police have been on the trail of the kidnappers.
“As I am speaking with you, the command has also deployed policemen from his anti-kidnapping unit to rescue the abductees and arrest the kidnappers.”
Also, Amotekun Corps Commandant, Gen. Bashir Adewunmi (Retd.), also said the corps had deployed its men in the area for search and rescue operation.
He said, “It is true that some people were abducted at Omo-Ijesa. We are yet to know their numbers. But we have deployed our personnel in the scene for a search and rescue mission.”
Coordinator of the OPC in the state, Prince Deji Aladesawe, also said the OPC had sent its members to the scene to assist security agencies to comb the forest areas in the community.
