Police, army foil kidnap attempts as gunmen attack Katsina housing estate
Residents in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State expressed gratitude on Sunday towards the police, army, and local vigilance group for thwarting a kidnapping attempt at Tijjani Malumfashi Housing Estate on Saturday.
Approximately 50 suspected kidnappers attacked the estate, initiating the assault around 11:00 p.m.
They fired shots into the air and proceeded to target the residents, prompting security operatives to intervene, ultimately rescuing the inhabitants, including a judge, from potential abduction.

The attackers had already apprehended and restrained six individuals within their homes before the timely arrival of security forces.
“The divisional police officer at Malumfashi, alongside a team of policemen, troops of the Nigerian Army, and members of the vigilance group, successfully repelled the attack.
“There was a heavy exchange of gunfire between the kidnappers and the security personnel for more than one hour before the gunmen fled.
“The gunmen shot one of the would-have-been kidnap victims, a prominent businessman who is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Kwandala Malumfashi,’’ the resident said.
The police spokesman in Katsina State, ASP Aliyu Abubakar-Sadiq, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation was ongoing.
“We are aware of the incident, and an investigation has started. The outcome of the investigation would be made public,’’ he assured.
