Police arrest 16 suspected motorcycle thieves, vandals, phone snatchers, human traffickers in Jigawa

Operatives of the Jigawa State Police Command have arrested 16 suspected motorcycle thieves, human traffickers, vandals and phone thieves in different parts of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, November 3, 2023, said a 40-year-old man, Muhammad Musa, of Fatori village S/Tankarkar LGA reported at the station that, on October 20, he parked his motorcycle boxer red in colour near Polaris Bank PLC Gumel branch but upon his return, he discovered that the motorcycle was missing.
“On receipt of the report, Policemen attached to Gumel Division swung into action, afterward, one Auwalu Idris ‘m’ age 32yrs of Kurnar Asabe quarters, and one Abubakar Lawan Ahmed ‘m’ age 23yrs of Rimin Kebe quarters all in Kano state were arrested in possession of the said motorcycle at Achauya village in S/Tankarkar LGA,” the statement read.
On interrogation, the suspects admitted to the commission of motorcycle theft at said bank.
“In addition, on 26/10/2023 at about 1430hrs Policemen attached to Gwaram Police station while on patrol arrested one Umar Yusuf ‘m’ age 35yrs of Auyakawa quarters, Gwaram LGA, with a motorcycle Bajaj red in colour without reg. no. strongly suspected to be stolen.”
When questioned, the suspect confessed to having stolen the said motorcycle at Gwaram Local Government Secretariat.

Later, the rightful owner of the motorcycle was identified as one Aliyu Umar ‘m’ of Tsangarwa village, to which the motorcycle was returned.
“In another development, on 27/10/2023 at about 1900hrs, a distress call was received at Gumel Police station from the warehouse of Waccot Agro Company Gumel LGA, that, suspicious movement of unknown persons was noticed within the premises of the company.
“On receipt of the call, detectives attached to Gumel Division swiftly rushed to the scene and arrested one Umar Muhd ‘m’ age 22yrs, and one Yusuf Nura ‘age 23yrs all of Kantudu quarters Gumel LGA, while in the act of vandalizing cable wires in the company. The suspects were brought to the Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) for investigation.
On interrogation, the suspects divulged the commission of the crime and mentioned one Osi Tsitaka ‘m’, Musa Habu ‘m’, and one Depot ‘m’ all now at large, as their accomplices. An investigation is ongoing to get them arrested.
“Consequently, on 29/10/2023 at about 1600hrs one Mubarak Balarabe Musa ‘m’ of Kanti quarters Kazaure LGA, reported at Kazaure Police station that on the same date at about 1530hrs, undesirable elements trespassed into his shop at Dayyubat Plaza Kazaure LGA and made away with his phone Infinix smart 6+, valued at seventy-five thousand naira (₦75,000.00k).
On receipt of the report, detectives from the Kazaure Division were detailed.
“On 29/10/23 at about 2230hrs, one Yusuf Yahaya ‘m’ 20yrs of Kofar Dazau quarters Kazaure LGA, Zurkifilu Abdulwahab ‘m’ 27yrs of Kofar Fada quarters Kazaure LGA, and Abba Abdullahi ‘m’ 22yrs of Bakin Kasuwa quarters Kazaure LGA, were arrested in connection with the case and the said phone was recovered in their possession,”
On interrogation, the suspects were revealed to have trespassed into the shop and stole the phone.
“Consequently, on 31/10/2023 at about 0600hrs, a patrol team attached to K/Hausa Police station in collaboration with members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) arrested one Ahmad Suleiman ‘m’ age 43yrs, Auwalu Abdullahi ‘m’ age 30yrs, and Husaini Hassan Masgare age 50yrs all of Bulangu village with three ropes of vandalized electric cables. When interviewed, the suspects could not give a satisfactory account of the cable wires, hence they were arrested.

On interrogation, the suspects conceded to having conspired and vandalized the cable wires along the Bulangu Murmur feeder road.
“Similarly, on 02/11/2023 at about 1230hrs, information was received at Babura Police Station from Marken Biki District Head, that miscreants had stormed into Garin Baki village Babura LGA, recruited about sixty (60) people intending to carry them to Osun State for unskilled labour.
“Immediately after receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer led a team of policemen and swiftly moved to the village where one Omotosho Daniel ‘m’ age 40yrs of Ife South LGA Osun State, and one Tanimu Usman ‘m’ age 20yrs of Kwadage village Roni LGA Jigawa State were arrested.
“During an investigation, the suspects revealed that they were recruiting people to Osun State, for Farm Harvesting, without authorization from relevant stakeholders.
“Furthermore, a report from Gagarawa Divisional Police Headquarters revealed that, on August 23, 2023, one Mudassir Usman ‘m’ age 22yrs of Tasha village Gagarawa LGA, reported a case of Motorcycle theft in his residence.
“Fortunately, on 02/11/23 at about 0700hrs, following tip-off and in-depth intelligence by the Police operatives attached to Gararawa Police station in conjunction with Policemen attached to Babura and Garki Division arrested one Shu’Aibu Auwalu ‘m’ age 20yrs of Tagwaye village, Sama’Ila Isa ‘m’ age 50yrs of Kirewa village and Abdullahi Amadu ‘m’ age 45yrs of kirewa village in connection with the case.
“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to having stolen the Motorcycle by deceitful means. They also confessed to having specialized in the theft of motorcycles.
“Upon completion of the discreet investigation, all the suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution, to face the full weight of the law.”
