Police arrest dad, mum, son, 3 others over killing of health college student
The Police Command in Kwara State has taken six individuals into custody in connection with the tragic death of Ogungbenro Blessing, a student at the College of Health and Technology in Offa. Among those arrested are A. Adeniyi and his wife, the parents of the primary suspect, Adebayo Happiness.
The couple was reportedly detained after allegedly attempting to remove incriminating evidence by retrieving items belonging to their son from his school.
During a press briefing on Friday, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, revealed that Happiness had lured the victim, Awesu Mojisola, to a supposed sign-out party at a hotel in Ilorin with the promise of N15,000.
Mojisola, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Health Technology, was reported missing by her roommate, Ogungbenro Blessing, on August 13, 2024.
According to the Commissioner, the incident began on August 9, 2024, when Mojisola received a phone call from another student who conveyed a message from Happiness, an expelled final-year student of Summit University, Offa.
The suspects in this case include Adebayo Happiness, A. Adeniyi, Mrs. Adeniyi, Adeola, Aminat, and Bulus. The police have recovered an iPhone 11 Pro, among other items.
Narrating the events, the police disclosed that Mojisola had accepted the invitation to the sign-out party and traveled from Offa to Ilorin. However, upon reaching Ilorin, Mojisola contacted her friends, expressing concern as there appeared to be no sign of the promised celebration.

The Commissioner of Police explained that Mojisola found herself alone in a hotel room with Happiness, who was allegedly smoking cannabis. After this unsettling experience, Mojisola’s phone became unreachable, and she was later found dead.
According to the police, investigations revealed that Happiness had deliberately deceived Mojisola, booking a hotel room under false pretenses.
Later that night, Happiness allegedly booked another room at the same hotel, possibly as a cover-up for his sinister plan.
Mojisola was subsequently murdered, and her body was left in the hotel room. Happiness fled the scene, taking Mojisola’s iPhone and N15,600 in cash.
The police further discovered that Happiness concealed the stolen phone in his hostel wardrobe upon returning to Offa.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adeniyi, allegedly attempted to tamper with evidence by retrieving his belongings from the school, and Mrs. Adeniyi reportedly removed the SIM card from the victim’s iPhone and hid it in a wall near their home.
Hotel staff, who discovered Mojisola’s body, unlawfully disposed of it at a refuse dump. Those involved in this act have also been arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy and the disappearance of evidence.
The investigation is still ongoing, and all suspects remain in custody.
The Kwara State Police Command has pledged to ensure that justice is served and to maintain peace and security in the community. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
