Police in Bauchi have arrested a 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Abdullahi, for raping a 7-year-old girl in Itas-Gadau Local Government Area of the State.

Spokesperson of the command, in a statement on Thursday, May 25, 2023, said the suspect deceitfully lured the minor into a toilet in a primary school where he raped her.

“On 13/05/2023 at about 1730hrs, one Umaru Yusuf ‘m’ aged 38yrs, reported at Itas Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 1259hrs one Ibrahim Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 27yrs of Itas town, deceitfully lured a 7yrs old Ameera ‘f’ (not real name) of the same address into a toilet at Central Science Primary School Itas town, Itas-Gadau LGA, and forcefully had unlawful canal knowledge of her,” the statement read.

“On receipt of the report, the team of detectives led by the DPO visited the scene and took the victims to the General Hospital Itas-Gadau, while the suspect was arrested.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to have committed the offence. Meanwhile discreet investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution on completion of the investigation.”

281 inmates escape Borno prison, seven recaptured after flooding

Seven out of 281 inmates that escaped from the correctional centre in Maiduguri, Borno State, have been recaptured.

The escape followed the severe flooding that dismantled the prison wall as well as damaged other public and private facilities in Maiduguri.

The Nigerian Correctional Service confirmed the number of escaped inmates on Sunday.

It said seven of them had so far been recaptured and returned to custody.

The statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Umar Abubakar, said the flooding which occurred on Tuesday, brought down the walls of the correctional facilities, including the medium security custodial centre Maiduguri, MSCC and the staff quarters in the city.

Abubakar noted that upon the evacuation of inmates by officers of the Service with support from sister security agencies to a safe and secure facility, it was observed that 281 inmates were missing.

He however said that the service was in custody of the details of the escapees including their biometrics, stressing that it would be made available to the public.

The pictures of the fleeing prisoners were also circulated on Sunday.

The statement said, “The Service is working in synergy with other security agencies as both covert and overt deployments have been activated to look out for them.

“Presently, a total of seven (7) inmates have been recaptured and returned to custody, while efforts are on ground to track down the rest and bring them back to safe custody.

“While this effort is on, the public is assured that the incident does not impede or affect public safety.”

Fire outbreak at Sokoto police command, Imam’s quarters, chapel razed

A massive fire erupted at the Sokoto State Police Command in the early hours of Saturday, reducing several key offices to ashes and sparking concerns over the cause of the blaze.

The fire, which broke out around 5 a.m., tore through the offices of high-ranking officials, including the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, the Command’s Chapel, and even the Chief Imam’s quarters.

In a statement to the press, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the shocking incident, stating, “The fire gutted a section of the one-story administration block of the Command, destroying several critical offices.”

He further detailed that the inferno obliterated the confidential office, the Chief Superintendent’s office, and various other administrative hubs, though, fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Despite ruling out any immediate signs of foul play, Rufa’i assured the public that an investigation was underway to uncover the cause of the blaze and assess the extent of the damage.

“There was no one in that section when the fire broke out,” he added, hinting at a possible electrical fault or other technical failure as the cause.

Security officer shoot man to death, injures two others in Bauchi

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Nigerian Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Umar, has condemned the recent attack in his constituency by a security outfit that left one dead and two others fatally injured.

Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial district, described the incident as unfortunate, calling for thorough investigation.

Speaking with journalists in his constituency at the weekend, the senator assured the families of those attacked that the killers will not escape justice.

The senator said it all happened in Zaranda Gari community in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State with shooting that led to the death of a 35 year old resident Abubakar Yahaya, while two other residents, Husseini Yunusa,20, and Yayangida Husseini, 16, were fatally injured.

Senator Buba, who hailed from Nabordo district where Zaranda Gari is located, visited the families of the deceased and the injured persons and sympathised with them over the incident.

He expressed sadness , saying no individual or group of individuals has right take the laws into their hands

Senator Buba, who described the incident as unfortunate and brutal called on the police to thoroughly investigate the incident to ensure that those found guilty are prosecuted.

“The purpose of my visit? This is my Constituency , not only my Constituency, it’s my local government , not only my local government it is my district, not only my district, its my ward. It is my home town,” he told journalists

“I came purposely to visit my home town and as well to pay a condolence for the unfortunate tragedy that happened in the community in Zaranda as a result of a brutal killing .

“Our young businessmen were on their lawful business when they were attacked by a group led by one militia led by somebody called Shayi.

“I was told that they were on their lawful business of selling.of charcoal and in the course of that they were attacked in their own hometown.

“They were shot with gun to death. I an assuring them that we will take every action on this matter is taken for justice to prevail”

The shooting led to massive protest in Zaranda village causing a blockage of the highway road, police said, adding that there was sporadic firing by members of a quasi-security outfit.

“This incident led to the serious injury of Abubakar Yahaya (35 years old), Hussaini Yunusa (20 years old), and Yayangida Hussaini (16 years old), all from Zaranda Gari village via Toro LGA. They were promptly taken to the Primary HealthCare Center Zaranda Gari, where unfortunately, Abubakar Yahaya succumbed to his injuries, the Police spokesman, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil disclosed.

Wakili said the Commissioner of Police has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police In-charge of the Department of Operations to mobilize tactical teams, including the Department of Operation, Rapid Response Squad, Operation Restore Peace, Acpol Toro, and Nabordo Division personnel, to handle the situation professionally.

He added that the Command has tasked a dedicated team of investigators to identify investigate,prosecute anyone responsible for the incident.
