Police Arrest Three ‘One-Chance’ Suspects Over Killing of Abuja Lawyer
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers believed to be members of a notorious “one-chance” syndicate linked to the killing of Abuja-based lawyer, Barrister Chigbo Princess Mediatrix.
The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, following directives from the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, to ensure those responsible for the crime and similar offences across the FCT are brought to justice.
According to the statement, operatives of the command’s Scorpion Squad carried out intelligence-led operations between January 5 and 10, 2026, tracking the victim’s mobile phone through digital forensic intelligence. The operations spanned Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa Area of Abuja.
The suspects arrested were identified as Saifullahi Yusuf, 22, and Ishau Yusuf, 24—both from Kaduna State and residents of Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei—as well as Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia, also from Kaduna State. Police disclosed that Saifullahi and Ishau are biological brothers.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal gang that has carried out one-chance robbery operations in Abuja for several years, particularly during festive periods.
Police alleged that on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., Barrister Princess Chigbo unknowingly boarded the suspects’ black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway. After entering the vehicle, the suspects reportedly wound up the tinted windows and threatened her with weapons, demanding ransom for her release.
When she allegedly resisted, the suspects assaulted her and pushed her out of the moving vehicle along the expressway, leading to injuries that resulted in her death.
The suspects also allegedly dispossessed the victim of her Android mobile phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. Police said Minka’ilu Jibril received ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf received ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect currently at large, identified as Musa, shared the remaining amount.
Items recovered from the suspects during the arrest included five scissors, two sharp daggers, two knives, a long chain used to restrain victims, and a plier, which police believe were used in carrying out their criminal activities.
The FCT Police Command said investigations are ongoing, with intensified efforts underway to arrest the fleeing suspect and uncover other criminal networks linked to the syndicate.
