Police Arrest Three Over Alleged N75 Million Mercedes-Benz Scam Using Fake Payment Alert
The Kano State Police Command has apprehended three suspects for allegedly defrauding a seller to acquire a N75 million Mercedes-Benz using a fake bank payment alert, officials confirmed.
According to the police, the suspects presented a fraudulent electronic payment confirmation to the car dealer, claiming that the full amount had been transferred. Investigations revealed that the payment was fake, and no funds were credited to the legitimate account.

The suspects, whose identities remain under investigation, were caught following a swift police operation targeting fraudulent high-value transactions. The luxury vehicle has been recovered and secured as evidence for prosecution.
A spokesperson for the Kano State Police warned residents to exercise caution in high-value purchases, especially luxury vehicles, and to verify payments directly with banks before releasing property.
“This case highlights the growing sophistication of financial fraud and the need for vigilance. Our operatives acted promptly to prevent the scam, and the suspects will face prosecution,” the spokesperson added.
Authorities also urged the public to report suspicious transactions and online scams, stressing that collaboration between citizens and law enforcement is critical in combating fraud in Kano State.
