The Lagos State Police Command has approved the dismissal of Kabiru Odejimi, a policeman who shot and killed Idris Bakare, a 24-year-old generator repairer.
Benjamin Hundeyin, public relations officer of the command, via a tweet on Wednesday evening, announced the police’s decision to dismiss Odejimi and arraign him before a judge.
Hundeyin’s tweet read, “The recommendation for dismissal of Inspector Kabiru Odejimi was today approved.
“This paves way for his arraignment which will take place on Friday, July 7, 2023.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Omohunwa, assures Lagosians of his unwavering determination to police the state within the dictates of the law, civility and respect for human life.”
Odejimi shot and killed Bakare in the Oregun area of the state on May 28, during a shooting spree in the middle of the night.
The trigger-happy cop, according to sources who spoke to FIJ, was not on duty on the fateful night, but arrived the area as he usually did and began shooting.
His bullet hit Bakare in the thigh, and while the young man was crawling to a primary healthcare centre, Odejimi stopped him and prevented anyone from helping him.
He took Bakare away, and the young man later died in a hospital.
Omohunwa visited the slain man’s family on Tuesday, May 30, and promised to investigate the matter.
