Police say they are on the trail of gunmen who on Saturday abducted the traditional ruler of Imope Ijebu, a small town in the Ijebu North Local Government of Ogun State, Chief Kolawole Omotayo.
Omotayo was reportedly kidnapped along Oke Eri-Imope road, while returning from Ijebu-Ode, also in Ogun State.
Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, “It is true that the traditional ruler was kidnapped; but I want to assure you that we are on the trail of his abductors.”
Omotayo is also said to be the President of Ijebu Igbo Club and member of Ijebu-Ode Club.
His abductors reportedly intercepted his vehicle, a Toyota forerunner, around 3pm and fired bullets at the tyres of the SUV to deflate them.
The bullets, which reportedly pierced through the engine, forced the car to stop and this gave the kidnappers an opportunity to pull him out of the car and drag him into the bush, leaving his vehicle on the road.
