Police inspector killed in Edo during reinstated Philip Shaibu homecoming
A police officer, Inspector Onu Ako, attached to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, was on Thursday shot dead when thugs attacked the convoy of the reinstated state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
A police spokesperson in the state, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the incident occurred at 11 am along the Airport Road in the state, shortly after the entourage left the Benin Airport.
He vowed the killers of the cop would be fished out and brought to justice.
Shaibu had declared support for APC’s Okpebholo against Peoples Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo.
Shaibu had a running battle with Governor Godwin Obaseki, leading to his impeachment but he returned to Edo State on Thursday after his reinstatement as deputy governor by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Following the death of the policeman, his body was taken in a procession to the Edo State Police Command causing heavy traffic on the Benin-Sapele Road.
