The Nigeria Police Force has launched an urgent investigation into a disturbing video circulating on social media that shows a woman feeding alcohol to her infant daughter.

In the viral clip, the unidentified mother is seen holding a sachet of alcoholic beverage, which she opens and gives to her baby—allegedly to help the child sleep at night. The video has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who have condemned the act as reckless and dangerous.

Reacting via its official handle on X (formerly Twitter), the police described the act as both “unlawful” and “life-threatening,” stating that it amounts to child abuse and endangerment. The force assured the public that immediate steps are being taken to identify and apprehend the woman in question.

“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the disturbing video showing a mother feeding her baby alcohol. We are investigating this matter thoroughly,” the statement read. “We urge anyone with credible information about the identity or location of the suspect to come forward and assist law enforcement.”

The police also warned that subjecting a child to harmful substances like alcohol is not only morally wrong but also a criminal offense under Nigeria’s child protection laws.
