Policemen who took 350 Euros meant for hospital bill arrested

Some policemen who forcefully took 350 euros meant for the payment of the hospital bill of the father of a Nigerian resident abroad from his brother in Nigeria have been nabbed.

The incident was reported on the social media handle of the Nigeria Police Force by a family member: @Marsalex_22.

The incident was reported on May 17, 2022.

According to @Marsalex_22: “@PoliceNG just took 350 euros from my brother. Nigeria is a useless country cause why this?

“Somebody’s blood and fucking sweat this fine evening, money for my fathers hospital bills this fucking evening.

“Okay nau, it’s me that is still in this country.”

The report was taken up by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who, it was learnt, requested the Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, to wade in.

The policemen were eventually found and arrested.

This was based on Alabi’s directive and with the support of the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin.

@Marsalex_22 confirmed this development, thanking Hundeyin.

He wrote: “My brother just retrieved his money. I’m honestly very grateful to everyone that helped and tagged @benhundeyin he was able to take the case up and we got the money.”

Replying, Hundeyin wrote: “I’m happy at the happy ending. We will not relent in weeding out incorrigible officers.”

However, Adejobi has kicked against such ending to the case.

He has demanded that the policemen involved must be prosecuted.

He responded to Hundeyin: “I am not pleased with this so called settlement. Ben, you are to monitor my signal to the CP Lagos to default and commence the trial of the policemen. This kind of settlement doesn’t work. Even if they refund the money they must be caused to face the music please. Thanks.”
