Pregnant Woman, Husband Beg for Help in Viral Kidnap Video as Abductors Demand N50m Ransom
A disturbing video circulating online shows a kidnapped couple in Edo State pleading for public assistance after their abductors demanded a N50 million ransom for their release. The couple, covered in dust and visibly terrified, sat on the bare ground as two unseen armed men reportedly pointed guns at them throughout the recording.
In the emotional footage, the yet-to-be-identified husband tearfully revealed that the kidnappers had threatened to rape his pregnant wife if the family failed to meet their financial demands. “Please, help us. My wife is pregnant, and they want to sleep with her. Our family has only been able to raise N7m. They said they need N50m,” he cried.
The video was forwarded to human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu by a relative of the victims, who said the kidnappers personally sent the footage to the family. An edited clip shared online also showed the couple’s Lexus 350 SUV abandoned with its doors left open, indicating they were abducted directly from their vehicle.

According to the relative, the man had just returned home “yesterday” when the suspects — allegedly dressed in herders’ attire — stormed their residence, seized the couple and escaped with them through nearby bushes.
Investigations revealed that the attack occurred in the sparsely populated Avele Community near Auchi in Edo State, an area marked by scattered private buildings and vulnerable access routes that criminals often exploit.
The alarming incident adds to the rising cases of kidnapping in Nigeria, intensifying calls for improved security, particularly in rural communities.
