BREAKING: Tinubu launches revived Abuja Metro, extends free train rides till December
President Bola Tinubu has approved an extension of the free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, until the end of the year.
This decision follows an initial announcement by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who had earlier declared a two-month period of free rides to alleviate commuting burdens for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The president’s approval came during his address at the inauguration of the commencement of operations for the Abuja metro rail on Wednesday, May 29.

During his speech, Tinubu emphasized the importance of offering continued support to the residents of the FCT, stating, “Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate.”
This move aims to provide relief to commuters and encourage greater use of the metro rail system, enhancing connectivity and reducing transportation costs for residents.
