A key political support group allied with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially disbanded and re-emerged under a new name, marking a notable development in the state’s shifting political landscape.
The Simplicity Movement, once one of the most visible groups backing the governor, announced its dissolution during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Port Harcourt. The group has now transitioned into what it calls the Rivers Grassroots Movement (RGM).
According to the leadership, the decision aligns with Governor Fubara’s recent call for all political structures operating in his name to stand down in support of the ongoing peace initiative.
Formed a year ago at the Kalabari National College field in Buguma, Asari-Toru LGA, the Simplicity Movement had established a presence across all 23 local government areas of the state.
At the meeting, National Leader Sobomabo Jackrich emphasized the group’s backing of the peace process, saying: “Our action was not motivated by inducement, expectation, or political reward,” Jackrich, the convener of the group, said.

“It was a voluntary, sincere, and deliberate demonstration of solidarity and belief in a leader who, from day one, placed Rivers people at the centre of governance.”
He noted that while the original platform was being retired, its mission would continue under a new structure and focus
“At this juncture, we must step aside — not in weakness, but in strength; not in retreat, but in responsibility,” Jackrich stated.
The newly formed Rivers Grassroots Movement, he explained, will function as a non-partisan platform with priorities including civic engagement, peace-building, grassroots development, and policy advocacy.
During the meeting, the group also acknowledged former Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for embracing reconciliation efforts and restated its commitment to Governor Fubara.
“We are not in opposition. We are not a faction. We are Rivers people. We are patriots. We are builders of peace,” Jackrich added.
He further stated that the group would continue to operate under Governor Fubara’s guidance.
Other speakers at the gathering echoed a message of unity and urged members across all LGAs to remain peaceful, disciplined, and focused on a stable future for the state.
