Ramadan: Moon sighted, Sultan tells Muslims to start fasting tomorrow

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced the commencement of Ramadan fast on Saturday March 1, 2025.

This, he said, followed the sighting of the crescent moon on Friday, which is the 29th day of Shaban.

Sultan, who is head of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs spoke in his palace in Sokoto, Sokoto State.

He said there reports of the moon sighting in various regions of the country, which were verified and accepted by the council.

He urged all Muslims to dedicate the holy month to prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings, and guidance for the nation and its leaders.

Earlier, the Saudi Arabia authority had declared Saturday as first day of the Ramadan after the moon was sighted in the country.
