Rapper Speed Darlington placed on NAPTIP watchlist over alleged sexual activity with minor
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has confirmed that controversial rapper Speed Darlington, real name Darlington Okoye, remains on its security watchlist over allegations of sexual activity with a minor.
According to NAPTIP, Darlington was added to the watchlist after repeatedly failing to honour invitations to meet investigators in Abuja. The case stems from a May 2024 Instagram Live video, during which the rapper allegedly claimed to have engaged in sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.
At a press conference marking the 2025 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, NAPTIP Director of Legal and Prosecution, Mrs Ijeoma Amugo, explained that the rapper had not cooperated with the investigation and instead went online to criticise the agency.

“What he did was to preemptively try to intimidate us by going to social media to say he wouldn’t come and wouldn’t respond, claiming we were violating his human rights,” Amugo said. “We tried to physically locate him, because the suspect must be found before justice can be served.”
Investigators were reportedly unable to locate Darlington at known addresses and later received intelligence that he had left Nigeria. Amugo added:
“Our last information is that he is outside Nigeria. We have placed him on the watchlist. The moment he returns, NAPTIP will resume the investigation from where it stopped. That is the current status of the case.”
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice in cases involving child sexual abuse and warned that suspects attempting to evade the law will be closely monitored.
