Real Madrid Crumble Against Celta Vigo in 2-0 La Liga Defeat
Real Madrid suffered a crushing 2-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday in La Liga, finishing the game with just nine men after red cards for Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras. Williot Swedberg scored both goals for Celta, handing Madrid their second league loss of the season and allowing rivals Barcelona to move four points clear at the top of the La Liga table.
The defeat compounded Xabi Alonso’s woes as defender Eder Militao was forced off due to injury, and the team struggled in their first home match after six consecutive games on the road across all competitions. Madrid’s form has dipped, with only one win in their last five La Liga games.
Alonso rested centre-back Antonio Rudiger, starting Alvaro Carreras in his place, but had to bring Rudiger on midway through the first half after Militao’s injury. Right-back Raul Asencio also started following a thigh injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold, highlighting a challenging start to life in Spain for the former Liverpool defender.

Madrid struggled to create clear chances against a resolute Celta defence, with goalkeeper Ionut Radu making several key saves to deny Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Vinicius Junior. Guler missed the team’s best opportunity of the first half, while Mbappe was repeatedly contained.
Celta broke the deadlock early in the second half when Bryan Zaragoza crossed for Swedberg, who expertly flicked the ball past Thibaut Courtois. Moments later, Fran Garcia received two yellow cards in rapid succession, reducing Madrid to 10 men.
In stoppage time, Carreras was dismissed for dissent, leaving Los Blancos with nine players. Swedberg completed his brace, rounding Courtois to seal a memorable win for Celta Vigo, leaving Madrid’s fans stunned and raising serious questions ahead of their Champions League clash against Manchester City.
