Real Madrid extends unbeaten record to 38, defeat Espanyol 4-1

Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Espanyol last night marked a significant milestone, as they extended their unbeaten streak in La Liga to an impressive 38 matches.

This remarkable run matches their previous record of 38 consecutive matches without a loss, which was set during the 1979-1980 season. The achievement highlights the team’s dominance in Spain’s top-flight league.

The last time Real Madrid tasted defeat in La Liga was nearly a year ago, in September, when they fell 3-1 in the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid. Since that loss, they have embarked on an extraordinary unbeaten run that has brought them to the verge of something truly special.

With 38 matches unbeaten, they are now just one result away from completing the perfect cycle in La Liga, which consists of going an entire season unbeaten.

Real Madrid are on quite a run

That defeat against Atletico Madrid, almost a year ago at the Metropolitano Stadium, seemed to have sparked something in Real Madrid.

From that point forward, they have gone unbeaten in La Liga, showcasing a level of consistency and resilience that few teams can match.

In total, Real Madrid are undefeated in their last 50 matches across both La Liga and the Champions League combined. Since their loss to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey, Los Blancos have pieced together a stunning 33-match unbeaten streak.

Additionally, following their victory over Stuttgart earlier this week, Real Madrid extended their unbeaten run in the UEFA Champions League to 14 matches.

This run is now approaching a club record. The last time they went on such a lengthy run in the Champions League was back in 2016 when they managed to go 15 games unbeaten, a streak that eventually ended in the semifinals against Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid’s ability to maintain such form across multiple competitions is a testament to the team’s strength and adaptability. With their eyes set on further records, they continue to demonstrate why they are one of the most formidable teams in European football.
