Regular users of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway will heave a sigh of relief as the Federal Ministry of Works on Monday began the removal of barriers from section one of the highway to ensure free flow of traffic.
Julius Berger is handling the reconstruction of that section of the road, Ojota to Sagamu Interchange.
Motorists have had agonising experience in recent times on that road section, spending hours in the heavy traffic resulting from the blockage at some points due to the ongoing reconstruction.
But the construction workers on Monday were spotted removing the barriers and other diversion points for free flow of traffic around the OPIC U-turn on the highway.
Director of Federal Highways, South West Adedamola Kuti, said the government promised to reopen the highway to traffic on Thursday but brought it forward to ease gridlock.
He also said all forms of barriers from Ojota in Lagos to Sagamu Interchange would be removed from Monday.
