The worshippers were among 183 persons kidnapped when armed assailants stormed church services in the community. While 11 victims reportedly escaped shortly after the abduction, the release of the 172 worshippers marks the completion of the rescue of all those taken during the attack.

Speaking during the reception, Governor Uba Sani expressed gratitude to security agencies, community leaders and all stakeholders involved in the operation. He described the release as a moment of relief for Kaduna State and reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity.

Some of the freed worshippers recounted experiencing harsh conditions, including hunger and physical hardship, while in captivity. The Kaduna State Government said arrangements had been made for medical evaluation and psychosocial support before the victims are reunited with their families.

Governor Sani reiterated that his government would continue to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to prevent future attacks on religious centres and communities across the state, stressing that protecting lives remains a top priority.
