It is rather surprising and I feel even ashamed of Nigerians who go to Shoprite to snap photos of empty stalls as proof that Tinubu has destroyed our economy. Are those guys even aware that that is evidence that Tinubu has actually restored our economy? Shoprite is a chain of stores that sell imported goods and products. President Tinubu’s reforms have deliberately made imported goods more expensive.

That is why Dangote Petrol is way cheaper than imported petrol. That is why Shoprite is empty, and local markets are fuller. Nigeria’s foreign reserve went from $3.7 billion under Buhari to approximately $40 billion today because Nigeria has stopped importing petrol and many other consumer products.

That is also why our debt profile has reduced from the $108.2 billion he inherited from the Buhari administration on May 29, 2023, to $94.2 billion today.

If the Shoprite stalls are full, it means your money and jobs are going to South Africa and China, from where Shoprite imports most of its products.

In fact, let Shoprite close down completely. That is the whole idea of the Nigeria First policy.

Nigeria recorded a record-breaking trade surplus of 14.31 billion in 2024, the absolute highest in our history because we no longer import many items we once imported.

Total exports were $38.93 billion, while imports were $24.62 billion. That is why Shoprite is empty: Tinubu is working, and Nigerians are finally shopping right by buying made-in-Nigeria products!
