Rep refutes claim of 27 killed in Kogi bandit attack
The lawmaker representing Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Leke Abejide, has dismissed reports alleging that 27 people were killed by bandits in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A report earlier published by Sahara Reporters and cited by newstrends claimed that armed bandits had launched a deadly assault on the community on Saturday, leaving 27 victims dead.
But Abejide, who spoke to PlatinumPost correspondent, said he was physically present in the area, adding that no such attack occurred.
“I am here in Yagba West LGA, Kogi State with a lot of people and we had a burial ceremony on Friday and Wedding ceremony on Saturday yesterday 4th October,2025 in peace but not pieces,” Abejide said.

It would be recalled that the federal lawmaker had recently visited Isanlu Police Station in Yagba East to condole with the families of two police officers who were killed by bandits while on duty.
During the visit, Abejide had stated: “These bandits are feeling the heat in some states like Niger and have decided to run here for safety to perpetrate heinous acts of violence, killings, and kidnapping. We will send them back to where they came from; there is no place for them here in Kogi State and Yagba Federal Constituency. Issues bothering on security are not something that can be discussed in public, but I can assure you that in a little while we will surely send them away from our land.”
The legislator donated N1 million each to the families of the slain officers and N300,000 to personnel at the station.
He also pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and local vigilante groups to step up efforts in tackling banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across his constituency.
