Rev. Sister charged with child-trafficking

A Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded a self-acclaimed Rev. Sister, Maureen Wechenwu, 44, for allegedly trafficking young children.

Wechenwu was arrested on September 3 by policemen in her camp in Aluu community in Ikwerre council of the state.

Sixteen children were reportedly recovered from the camp.

Three alleged accomplices have fled, police said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to catch them.

Police have preferred a 42-count charge against the suspect but have now added murder to it.

Wechenwu was alleged to have kidnapped a woman and her three children early this year.

One of the children has been found, police said, but the woman and two other children have not been seen.

The case has been adjourned the matter till October.
