Rivers assembly invites nine commissioners who resigned under Fubara for fresh screening
The Rivers State House of Assembly has invited nine commissioner nominees for screening and confirmation.
The nominees are those who resigned from the cabinet of Siminalayi Fubara, governor of the state, last year.
In December 2023, a gale of resignations hit Fubara’s cabinet with at least nine commissioners resigning their positions on the back of the political crisis in the state.
The resignation of the commissioners was against the backdrop of the feud between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).
In a statement on Monday, Emeka Amadi, clerk of the Rivers house of assembly, said the commissioner nominees are expected to appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday.
The venue of the screening is the state house of assembly, legislative quarters.
The nominees are Zacchaeus Adangor, Jacobson Mbina, Gift Worlu, Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma, Chukwuemeka Woke, Chinedu Mmom, George-Kelly Alabo, Isaac Kamalu, and Austin Ben Chioma.
On December 18, Fubara and Wike agreed to end the political feud between them after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
During the meeting with Tinubu, Fubara, Wike and other Rivers stakeholders signed an eight-point resolution.
Part of the resolution was that Martin Amaewhule should be recognised as speaker, while the 27 lawmakers who defected should be taken back as members of the assembly.
