Plan your route: Lagos begins eight-month traffic diversion on Lekki–Ajah corridor
The Lagos State Government says it will commence an eight-month traffic diversion on the busy Lekki–Ajah corridor from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026 for rehabilitation works on the road.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government said the project would be executed in two phases to reduce traffic congestion and ensure steady vehicular movement during the construction period.
According to the statement, Phase 1 will cover the stretch between the Lekki First Toll Gate and the Lekki Second Toll Gate, while Phase 2 will extend from the Lekki Second Toll Gate to the Ajah Under-Bridge.
Osiyemi explained that preliminary works were already in progress and assured motorists that traffic management officers would be deployed to key sections of the route to guide movement and maintain order.
Phase 1
The rehabilitation will be divided into seven sections.
One lane will be closed at a time, while motorists will use the open lane.
Once the closed lane is completed, work will shift to the other lane.
During this phase, traffic flow towards Lekki and Ajah will remain open.
Phase 2
This phase will be handled in four sections.
Motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane as work progresses on the other.
After completing one side, repairs will move to the remaining lane.
Traffic heading towards Ajah will not be interrupted.
The Commissioner urged motorists to be patient and obey traffic officials during the construction period, noting that the rehabilitation is part of the state government’s efforts to improve road quality, enhance safety, and ease movement along one of Lagos’ busiest corridors.
“These repairs are part of our continuous efforts to improve road infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic flow across the state. We appeal for patience and cooperation from all road users,” Osiyemi said.
