Armed robbers broke into a branch of Wema Bank in Iragbiji, headquarters of Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, on Tuesday, killing a policeman.
A resident of the town said the robbers also attacked the police station in the community.
The deceased policeman was simply identified as Ahmed.
According to the eyewitness, the armed robbers who also attacked the police station shot the policeman who exchanged fire with them.
The robbers, who reportedly operated for about 30 minutes, carted away money from the bank located beside the palace of the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Abdulrosheed Olabomi.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, a reinforcement team had been deployed in Iragbiji.
Recently, a commercial bank in Iree, near Iragbiji, was robbed and a policeman was shot dead.
