Two police officers were on Thursday killed by armed robbers during an attack on a bullion van in the Idi-Ape area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The robbers were said to have waylaid the van and released several gunshots at the security escorts as well as the vehicle.
The incident forced several motorists to abandon their vehicles and run for safety. The usually busy street was immediately vacated.
The bullion van was said to have left a new generation bank along Testing Ground on Iwo Road.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, confirmed the death of two police officers, adding that they were shot in the neck.
She also said the officers killed one of the robbers but the corpse was taken away by the robbery gang.
Onadeko said the state had been locked down to prevent the robbers from escaping.
