Egypt’s national team captain Mohamed Salah is boasting the Pharaohs will edge the Super Eagles in their opening Group D Africa Cup of Nations AFCON) tie in Garoua today.
Already picked as one of the standout matches of the on-going delayed Cameroon 2021 AFCON , the Liverpool star admitted the tie would be tricky in view of the calibre of players at the disposal of both sides .
“All teams have top players and have the opportunity to compete,” the two-time African Footballer of the Year noted at the pre-match conference. “Tomorrow (today) will do everything we can to win because we have a good team and great players.

“We are in the stage of building a new generation, however, we have reached the play-offs in the World Cup qualifiers, and now we will compete for the Africa Cup of Nations.
“ I have never won a title with the national team and I hope this will be the first. We have a great coach and a great team so we will give our all.”
Egypt are being coached at this tournament by the vastly experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz who echoed similar sentiments as Salah’s.
“We are ready and eagerly waiting for the start of the journey,” the 68-year-old Queiroz who once assisted former Manchester United coach Sir Alex Fergusson said, “ Everyone is ready to give their best. We will face a team that has many great players, but we are ready and we will face them with full force.”
