President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW), Chief Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa, has advised drivers, especially commercial drivers plying inter state routes to always drive with caution during Eid-el Kabir trips to avoid unpleasant situations.
He said drivers must always make sure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
“Always make sure that your vehicles are in good condition before going any trip to avoid embarrassment. You extra tyre, brakes and lights must be functioning properly.”
Baruwa urged all drivers to try as much as possible to avoid night trips, as the security situation in the country does not encourage night travels.
“I will advise my people to try to avoid travelling at night to avoid any unpleasant situations that can happen at nights. Always make sure you have enough sleep and rest to avoid fatigue.”
He also said drivers should ensure that their vehicles papers are complete and up-to-date to guide against any form of confrontation with law enforcement agents on the road.
“Make your vehicles papers like insurance, vehicle licences, roadworthiness certificate manifest and other relevant documents are up-to-date to avoid embarrassment from police, VIO and other law enforcement agents,” the NURTW boss said.
He said drivers should avoid overloading, excessive speeding and any other vices that could cause road accident.
