Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II
The Kano State government has dismissed hoisting traditional and official flags at the Nassarawa mini palace, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, resides, as a mere attempt to attract attention.
The flag, which symbolizes authority and indicates the emir’s presence, is raised daily at 6 a.m. and lowered at 6 p.m., remaining down when the emir is absent or travelling.
On Thursday, the flag was raised at the Nassarawa mini palace.

Bayero ascended after Sanusi was deposed and replaced following an amendment to the state’s emirate law.
The same flag is also raised at the Gidan Rumfa palace, where the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, resides.
The state governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, dismissed the gesture as a futile attempt to seek public attention.
“It’s an attempt to gain pointless publicity. There is no confusion or ambiguity; Emir Sanusi remains the Emir of Kano,” he told Daily Trust yesterday.
