Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday presented to President Muhammadu Buhari a report extent of damage to public and private facilities in Lagos caused by hoodlums during their recent attacks and looting of different parts of the state.
A tweet by the Presidency stated that the governor presented the report to the President during their meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
“President @MBuhari this afternoon met with Governor @jidesanwoolu of Lagos. The governor presented a report on the extent of the destruction suffered by Lagos State in the aftermath of the ENDSARS protests. #AsoVillaToday,” the Presidency tweeted.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Gawat Jubril, said the report contained images of facilities destroyed in the state.
“Governor @jidesanwoolu today presented the report of the recent coordinated arson in Lagos State to President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“In the report were the images of public and private assets destroyed in the violence sparked by the hijack of #EndSARS protest,” he tweeted.
Violence erupted in different parts of Lagos and across the country from Wednesday October 21 after soldiers had reportedly opened fire on peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate.
Hoodlums looted, vandalised and burnt several businesses and properties, some of which are the Lekki Toll Plaza, Lekki Concession Company (LCC); GTBank, Zenith, and Polaris bank branches on Admiralty Way; BRT bus terminal with several BRT busses in Oyingbo and Berger; Television Continental (TVC); Nigerian ports Authority building in Marina; and The Nation newspaper headquarters in Lagos. They also vandalised and looted Filmhouse’s Circle Mall and Surulere cinemas as a fallout. Both cinemas are situated in popular malls on Lagos mainland and island respectively.
Sanwo-Olu has been quoted as saying the state would need N1tn for reconstruction after the havoc wreaked by the hoodlums.
Already, he has established the Lagos State Rebuilding Trust Fund with an eight-man team to coordinate restoration efforts.
