Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has clinched the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election.
He was declared as winner of the primary which held on Thursday at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island.
Chairman of the Lagos APC primary electoral committee, Ahmed Yuguda, said Sanwo-Olu secured 1,170 votes out of a total of 1,198 accredited votes.
He said only Sanwo-Olu was cleared to participate in the primary.
The election was conducted under heavy security presence and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to NAN, while reacting to allegations that the two other aspirants were prevented from attending the primary, Yuguba said only Sanwo-Olu wss given the go-ahead to participate in the exercise as an aspirant.
“We are aware that three aspirants bought forms for Lagos state. Three were accredited for the screening; one was cleared; two were not cleared,” he said.
He added, “So, as we speak, the other two aspirants have not been cleared by the screening committee and by the appeal committee. We are only attending to those that have been cleared.”
The other two aspirants said not cleared are Wale Oluwo, a former commissioner, and Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha, a former permanent secretary.
