The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emerged as the Housing Friendly Governor of the Year at the 15th Abuja International Housing Show held at International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The award which was presented by the Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu, is for “Sanwo-Olu’s dogged commitment towards regulating the real estate subsector through the establishment of Lagos State Real Estate regulatory Authority.
This move, according to the minister, has helped in reducing the challenges faced by home seekers and protected vulnerable citizens from fraudulent activities of unscrupulous agents.
Also speaking at the event on behalf of the organisers, Mr Festus Adebayo, said, “The governor of Lagos State has made positive impact in the area of housing development by initiating and implementing housing policies that clearly show an in-depth understanding of the peculiar challenges faced by the citizenry in terms of affordable and accessible housing.”
The award was received on behalf of the governor by Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, who thanked the organisers and said, “the recognition will further urge the state government to charge forward in its avowed task of reducing the barriers to safe, decent and affordable housing for the people of Lagos State.”
Present at the event were the Minister for Housing, Republic of Ghana, Hon. (Dr) Freda Prempe, Minister of Environment, Dr Mahmoud Abubakar, the representatives of the governors of Borno and Yobe states, presidents of various professional associations in the built environment sector among other stakeholders.
