A Saudi Arabia–based humanitarian organisation, Albidairi Foundation, has commissioned a 700-capacity orphanage home and a 5,000-capacity mosque in Kano State, in a major intervention aimed at supporting vulnerable children and addressing the growing challenge of out-of-school children.

The facility, known as the Albidairi Orphanage Home, was inaugurated on Saturday at Langel in Tofa Local Government Area. The project is designed to provide shelter, education and moral upbringing for orphaned and displaced children in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Director of the orphanage, Sheikh Adam Yushau Adam, said the centre was established by Abu-Abdurrahman Al-Bidairi through the Albidairi Foundation, a charity registered in Nigeria and actively involved in humanitarian services.

According to him, the orphanage is structured to accommodate 14 children per room, with each room equipped with toilet facilities, supported by nannies and teachers who will provide both Islamic and Western education.

“The children will memorise the Holy Qur’an, and there are provisions for sports and recreational activities. The facility runs on 24-hour solar power and is equipped with adequate security infrastructure,” he said.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, described the initiative as timely, noting that Kano has the highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.

He explained that the situation has been worsened by insecurity in neighbouring states, leading to an influx of widows and orphans into Kano.

“Establishments like this will help address part of these challenges and reduce social vices,” Makoda said.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and the Disabled, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, said the orphanage would significantly ease the burden on government, adding that the state is strengthening efforts to certify and accredit legal orphanages while shutting down illegal facilities.

Also speaking, Dr Nura Abdullahi, Director of Alkahirat Islamic Trust, highlighted the religious importance of caring for orphans in Islam.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was an orphan. He taught that whoever takes care of an orphan is guaranteed paradise. The founder of this foundation has never visited Nigeria, yet his kindness has reached us,” he said.
