Saudi group installs communication system at NEMA office, donates 16,000 food baskets to Borno IDPs

A Saudi Arabia Kingdom-based Non-Governmental Organization, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KS-RELIEF), has commissioned a newly installed real time communication system  at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Headquarters in Abuja.

In addition, the NGO also donated 16,000 Food Baskets of relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persos (IDOs) camps in Borno, in which each house is expected to get not less than 59.8kg of the food items.

The Director General of NEMA, Ahmed Mustapha Habib made the disclosure at a ceremony to mark the take off of the communication system and signing of agreement for the donation of the relief materials.

While appreciating the giant strides of the KS-RELIEF Center towards humanitarian causes, the DG noted that the organization had been very benevolent to Nigeria as a reliable ally for years.

“Between 2018 and 2021, the center donated relief items to Internally Displaced Persons in Borno, Yobe and Zamfara States.

“Furthermore, in 2021, KS Relief graciously upgraded the NEMA Contact Centre which was commissioned on the 13th August, 2021 at the NEMA Headquarters, Abuja.

“The Phase 2 of the project, which involves the provision of equipment for real-time monitoring and communication during emergencies have also been completed by KS Relief.

Harping on the just inaugurated real-time communication system, Mr. Habib noted that;  “with the audio-visual communication on disaster and humanitarian outlook, NEMA operatives deployed to the field can now send real time feedback to the Agency’s Emergency Coordination Centre.

“The system will no doubt promote early response and facilitate the efficient management and deployment of life saving human and material resources.”

On the other hand, the leader of delegation of the KS-RELIEF, Mr. Al-Yusuf Abdulkarim Abdulnasir stated that the NGO has undertaken and implemented many humanitarian projects in collaboration with NEMA in which millions of people were reached with food assistance.

His words; “KS-RELIEF approved the third food assistance project to support internally displaced people in Nigeria in collaboration with NEMA and today we gathered to inaugurate the project.

“In addition, our relationship was further strengthened with NEMA with the approval of the capacity development project to upgrade the coordination and information sharing capacity of NEMA to enhance emergency response.

“Provision of communications equipment will facilitate the communication between NEMA and the field offices and enable NEMA to coordinate humanitarian response to affected populations in the country.”

Mr. Abdulkarim further noted that  this gesture was an extension of the relief and humanitarian efforts provided by the government of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques; King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, KS-RELIEF center was established in the framework of the Saudi’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of those in need worldwide. According to KS-RELIEF, the organization has helped 79 countries and spent $5.65 billion on 1,919 projects globally.
