Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, signalling the beginning of the 12th Islamic month.
Dhul Hijjah is the 12th and final month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims travel to Makkah for hajj.
A message shared by Haramain, a Saudi-based online news platform, on X on Thursday said Friday is the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
The message indicated that Saturday June 15 would be the day of Arafat, while Sunday June 16 would be the day of Eid-el-Adha, the Muslims’ biggest festival.
On Wednesday, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and president general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), asked Muslims in the country to look for the new moon of Dhul Hijja, 1445 AH.
