The push for Ademola Lookman to become new Africa player of the year has intensified with players of the senior national team of Nigeria joining the campaign.

Lookman stole the show in the Europa League final with a hat-trick to power Atalanta to a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen for only the second trophy of their history. The defeat was the first for the Germans since the start of the season in all competitions.

He followed it up with another goal last week in the Serie A in their 3-0 win over Torino to end the season with 15 goals. This is on the back of his performance for Nigeria at the AFCON where he was the team’s top scorer with four goals.

His form has brought about the push for him to be named the new Africa player of the year, an award that is currently held by his international teammate Victor Osimhen.

Captain of the Super Eagles William Troost-Ekong started the campaign immediately after the Europa League final game and was backed by his vice Kenneth Omeruo.

Since then a total of five other players of the team in Alex lwobi, Calvin Bassey, Joe Aribo, Semi Ajayi and Frank Onyeka have joined the campaign on social media.
