Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has said the Second Niger Bridge is 80 per cent completed.
President Muhammadu Buhari awarded the contract for the project at the initial cost of N206 billion. The Federal Government had so far released N116.72 billion for the project valued at N414 billion.
Fashola spoke on the current state of the bridge after inspecting the project from the Obosi end to its Ogbaru terminus, announcing that the February 2022 fixed for its inauguration was feasible.
He said he was impressed with the progress, adding that the last time he visited the site, the majority of work was at the Onitsha-bound lane.
According to him, the bridge would be completed by the approved revised Federal Government budget.
He said, “I’m impressed by the work done. By February the bridge will be linked from Asaba to the Onitsha end, and sometime next year the entire project would be commissioned.”
Federal Controller Works in the state, Adeyemo Ajani, said the 11.9 Km Owerri inter-change road linking the bridge from Onitsha end to Asaba in Delta State was almost ready.
