Secondus reacts as Wike threatens to crush ex-PDP national chairman, supporters

A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has reacted to a comment by Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, in which the latter said he will “crush” party members associating with him.

While flagging off the construction of roads in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers on Saturday, Wike warned members of the PDP against associating with Secondus.

The Rivers governor said Secondus was removed as national chairman because he performed below the expectations of party members, warning those working with him to fight “our system” would be crushed.

“If anybody fights our system, we will fight the person back,” Wike said.

“Let me tell you what you don’t understand in politics. The moment you claim to be working with us and tomorrow you shift to our enemy, we will take every might we have, we will even leave our enemy and finish you first.

“So all of you who are going back to Abuja to hold meetings with our enemies in the state, I’m going to finish you to the last. You can’t come here, gain from the state, be a contractor, get money then you move to Abuja to hold meetings against us and say I’ll leave you free; I’ll not leave you free.

“We removed a national party chairman who was not doing well. All of them were here. We all agreed; now they are going to Abuja to hold meetings with the man we removed, thinking that you will use that to fight us, we will crush them.”

Secondus is an ally of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP. Wike fell out with Abubakar after losing the party’s presidential ticket to him.

But in his reaction to Wike’s comment in a statement issued by Ike Abonyi, his spokesperson, Secondus said the Rivers governor lacked the power to crush anybody.

“Wike, you cannot crush anybody. I cannot fight; only God can crush,” Secondus was quoted as saying.

The former PDP chairman added that nobody could remain in power forever.
