The Senate suspended review of the Ministry of Defence’s budget for 2023 on Tuesday after the Minister, Bashiru Magashi, failed to appear before its Adhoc Committee on the Resuscitation of Nigerian Navy Ships.
The decision was reached by the Senate’s Committee on Defence following an interjection by former Senate Leader Yahaya Abdullahi, who drew the attention of other members of the committee to an earlier action by the Senate summoning the Minister of Defence to appear before its ad hoc committee to explain the naval ships.
The NNA Aradu, which is Nigeria’s flagship and the most potent ship in its fleet, was the subject of a resolution brought up on the Senate floor in February, according to Abdullahi.
