This attack follows a string of violent incidents in Plateau State, including last month’s raid in Ratoso Fan District, Barkin Ladi LGA, where 12 miners were killed and others went missing. Analysts note that these attacks are often linked to criminal gangs, militias, and disputes over mineral resources, highlighting the security challenges facing remote mining areas.
In recent weeks, Plateau has also witnessed attacks on farming communities, leaving at least six farmers dead, signaling a worrying pattern of rural insecurity. Local authorities are calling for enhanced security measures, rapid patrol deployment, and protection of vulnerable mining and farming communities to prevent further loss of life.
Security experts warn that without urgent intervention, Plateau State’s rural communities remain at high risk of continued violence, displacement, and economic disruption, affecting both miners and farmers who rely on these lands for their livelihoods.
