Sharia court sentences man to 60 strokes for stealing Ram in Kano
A Sharia Court in the Fagge ‘Yan Alluna area of Kano State has sentenced a young man, Ahmad Sa’id Dandinshe, to 60 strokes of cane for stealing a ram intended for the Eid al-Adha celebration.
The theft took place in the Dabai area of Gwale Local Government Area, where Dandinshe was accused of stealing the ram belonging to Maryam Hamza, a local resident.
During proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Zaharaddin Mustafa, told the court that the accused committed criminal trespass and theft, both of which violate the Kano State Sharia Penal Code.

Dandinshe pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to him.
Presiding over the case, Ustaz Umar Lawan Abubakar sentenced the defendant to six months in prison or a ₦15,000 fine with 30 strokes of cane for criminal trespass, and another six months or ₦15,000 fine with 30 strokes for theft.
The court confirmed that “the punishment was carried out within the court premises.”
