An Abuja magistrates’ court has granted bail to six #EndSARS protesters arrested in front of the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
The protesters are Oluwatosin Adeniyi, Paul Akinwumi, Davo Chomo, Abdulsalam Zuberu, Kabiru Gasali, and Yasiru Bashir.
They were arraigned before the court and remanded in prison shortly after they were arrested on November 6 and had pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
But ruling on the bail application filed by the defence counsel, Tope Akinyode, the presiding magistrate on Wednesday granted bail to each of the six defendants in the sum of N50,000 and one surety in like sum.
The magistrate, Abdurazak Eneye, ordered that the sureties must deposit the N50, 000 bail sum at the court registry.
He also ruled that the surety to be presented by each of the defendants must be a Nigerian citizen with a verifiable means of identification.
He ordered that copies of their of means of identity and documents showing their means of livelihood must be deposited at the court too.
The youths were apprehended by the police at the National Assembly gate where they had staged a peaceful protest against police brutality.
They also scribbled ‘ENDSARS’ in bright red on the road during the protest.
The group had also staged a protest at the police headquarters and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where they were dispersed by aviation security operatives.
Their trial was adjourned till January 25, 2021.
