Six Zamfara Lawmakers Defect from PDP to APC

Six lawmakers in the Zamfara State House of Assembly have formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a significant shift in the state legislature’s political landscape.

The defecting legislators, all originally elected on the PDP platform, announced their move during a plenary session, citing political realignment and the need to work with the ruling party as key reasons for their decision.

• Hon. Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North)
• Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North)
• Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West)
• Hon. Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi I)
• Barr. Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North)
• Hon. Bashir Bello (Bungudu West)

Their defection reduces the strength of the opposition in the Assembly and further consolidates APC’s influence in the state, altering the numerical balance in the legislature in favor of the ruling party.

The APC leadership in Zamfara has welcomed the lawmakers, describing their decision as a boost to governance, unity, and political stability in the state.
