Speeding Bus Hits Truck, Injures Two on Oshodi–Oke Road

Two passengers sustained serious injuries in a road traffic crash involving a commercial bus along the Heritage Garden inward Oshodi–Oke axis of Lagos in the early hours of Sunday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed.

In a statement, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said the accident involved a long red Tata commercial bus which reportedly rammed into a moving truck due to excessive speeding.

“Preliminary findings reveal that a ‘Tata’ long red commercial bus, MUS 507 XX, was involved in the crash, which was triggered by excessive speed,” Adebayo said.

According to him, the truck reportedly drove away from the scene without sustaining visible damage, making immediate identification and accountability difficult.

LASTMA operatives responded promptly to a distress alert and rescued two passengers who were trapped in the mangled vehicle. Emergency protocols were immediately activated, and the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) was contacted.

LASAMBUS officials arrived swiftly, administered first aid at the scene, and transported the injured passengers to a medical facility for further treatment.

To prevent further accidents and restore traffic flow, LASTMA officers apprehended the bus driver for investigation and evacuated the damaged vehicle from the roadway.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured passengers and described the crash as avoidable. He warned motorists against reckless speeding, stressing that it remains one of the leading causes of road traffic crashes in Lagos State.

“Adherence to speed regulations is not optional; it is a civic and moral obligation essential to safeguarding all road users,” Bakare-Oki said, urging both commercial and private drivers to observe speed limits and comply with traffic laws.
