Sultan announces June 28 Eid-el Adha
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced Wednesday, June 28, 2023 as the day of Eid-el Adha, the Big Sallah.
The Sultan is the President-General Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
His announcement is contained in a statement issued on Sunday night by the council.
His announcement came after the Saudi moon-sightring teams had confirmed that Monday as the 1st of Dhul Hijjah.
This indicates that Tuesday June 27 will be observed as Day of Arafah.
Eid-el Adha is marked the next day, a day after Arafah.
The Sultan’s statement read, “The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Monday 19 June, 2023 as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH.”
“Accordingly Wednesday 28 June, 2023 will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH. “His Eminence The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, wishes the entire Muslim Ummah happy Eidul Adha Mubarak in advance.”
The Sultan had on Saturday directed Muslims to look out for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH from Sunday.
