Sultan of Sokoto Declares December 22 as First Day of Rajab 1447AH

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, December 22, 2025, as the First Day of Rajab 1447AH.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, who also serves as Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.

According to the statement, the Committee, in collaboration with the National Moon Sighting Committee, did not receive any confirmed report of the sighting of the crescent moon of Rajab from any part of Nigeria on Saturday, December 20, 2025, which marked the 29th day of Jumada Assaniya 1447AH.

Consequently, Sunday, December 21, 2025, was declared the 30th day of Jumada Assaniya 1447AH, the statement said.

It added that following this development, the Sultan of Sokoto approved Monday, December 22, 2025, as the official First Day of Rajab 1447AH for Muslims across the country.
