Super Eagles Star Terem Moffi Assaulted by Angry OGC Nice Fans After Loss to Lorient
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi was reportedly attacked by angry OGC Nice supporters following the club’s sixth consecutive defeat against Lorient on Sunday, in an incident that also involved teammate Jérémie Boga.
Reports indicate that around 400 Ultras waited for the players at OGC Nice’s training ground after returning from the match. The atmosphere turned hostile when two supporters boarded the team bus to confront players. Both Moffi and Boga were reportedly spat on, punched, kicked, and verbally abused, including racist insults.
The attack is said to have been sparked by criticism of Moffi, who joked with former Lorient president Loïc Féry after the game. Following the assault, Moffi was put on sick leave for a week, while Boga was given five days off. Both players subsequently reported the incident to local police to press charges against the alleged assailants.

In response, OGC Nice described the incident as unacceptable. The club said:
“The club understands the frustration created by the succession of poor displays and performances far from its values. However, the excesses we saw during this gathering are unacceptable. A few members of the club have been attacked. OGC Nice gives them its full support and condemns these acts with the highest toughness.”
Similarly, the French National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) condemned the assault and pledged solidarity with the victims, emphasizing that the physical and psychological integrity of players is non-negotiable.
During the attack, Moffi reportedly needed assistance from goalkeeper Yéhvann Diouf to safely reach the club building. The assault comes amid OGC Nice’s poor run in Ligue 1, where the team has lost six matches in a row and currently sits 10th on the table with 17 points from 14 games.
Moffi recently featured for Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers, replacing Victor Osimhen in the second half against Benin Republic, further highlighting his importance to both club and country.
This incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raises urgent concerns about fan violence in European football.
