Support Nigeria with technology, not threats, Kwankwaso tells U.S
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to offer technological support to Nigeria in its fight against insecurity, rather than issue threats of military intervention.
Kwankwaso made the appeal in a statement on Sunday, responding to recent remarks by President Trump accusing the Nigerian government of ignoring attacks on Christians and warning of possible U.S. military action against terrorist groups operating in the country.
Trump’s comments followed Nigeria’s endorsement of a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict and its condemnation of civilian killings in Gaza, which has sparked allegations of “Christian genocide” against Nigeria.
In his response, Kwankwaso emphasized Nigeria’s sovereignty and the complex nature of its security challenges, which he said affect citizens across religious and ethnic lines.

“Our country is a sovereign nation whose people face threats from various outlaw groups. These threats do not discriminate based on religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation,” Kwankwaso stated.
The former Minister of Defence urged the U.S. government to leverage its resources and influence to assist Nigeria with advanced security technology, rather than inflame tensions with provocative statements.
“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarize our country,” he said.
Kwankwaso also advised the Nigerian government to adopt a more assertive diplomatic approach in its engagement with Washington, including the appointment of special envoys and permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests globally.
He called on Nigerians to remain united in the face of external pressures, stressing the importance of national cohesion. “This is the time to emphasize unity of belonging over division,” he said.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over international perceptions of Nigeria’s internal security and the need for constructive global partnerships to address terrorism and instability.
